Hereford Meeting House ‘Heritage Open Days’

Discover our Meeting House which is tucked away in a passage off King Street in Hereford – HR4 9BX. Even people who have lived in the area for many years are surprised that we are here!

The building was purchased by local Quakers in 1821 so has been used for our meetings for 196 years. The building has an interesting history as it was previously used for flannel manufacturing to help the unemployed into work.

From 1883 the Meeting House was also used to teach local people to read and write. This was a very welcome and popular service to the local community at a time when education was not available to all. There will be a display board and information sheets giving information on the history of the building. You are welcome to have tea in the garden – inside if wet.

We would be very interested if anyone has some information on the Adult School. Perhaps a member of your family attended. Do come along and tell us about it.

Opening Times

  • Friday 8 September: 14.00 – 17.00
  • Saturday 9 September: 14.00 – 17.00
